"Powers of Ten" Lesson: www.powersof10.com

This is a lesson investigating the question of how big is big and how small is small. It connects these ideas with the sceintific notation dealing with scaling by a factor of 10. the "Powers of Ten" video is old (1977) but is so well done that it still stands as the classic analysis and presentation of this intriguing concept.

"Trebuchet" Lesson: www.warwicksiege.com

This website will supplement my existing lessons on projectile motion wherein we discuss Medieval heavy artillery called "Trebuchets". Basically a huge see-saw that tosses huge (250-300 Lb) stones at castle walls to break them down. These fearsome weapons could hurl these projectiles several hundred meters with devastating impact. The website provides accurate history and construction details of the world's biggest functioning siege weapon, the Warwick Trebuchet. The website is part of a Tourist/Marketing pitch for the Warwick Castle but it is very well done and will work to supplement my existing lesson plans.

"Vectors" Lesson: www.physicsclassroom.com/morehelp/vectdirn/practice.cfm
http://en.wikipedia.org

www.answers.com

These websites will provide supplemental lesson support in the unit on vectors that I teach. In fairness, my current lessons on vectors are basic (borderline boring!!??) but they get the job done. Additional vector practice support from the "Physicsclassroom" site will be very helpful. The "Answers" website will provide delicious (and most likely extra-credit or Honors assignments) connections to the obvious and powerful computer applications of "vector graphics"
